And further more

Greg over at Geese Aplenty briefly mentioned an issue regarding behaviours of persons riding elevators. Almost daily I'm irritated by the elevators here - or rather the people riding them, and almost daily I think "I'm going to write about this." Of course, I never do.

Anyway, his complaint was with people wanting the elevator held for them, even though they're some distance away from the elevator. I usually don't have this sort of complaint, but rather the following

  • People who insist on holding the door open, while they finish their conversation with someone still out in the corridor.
  • People who barge onto the elevator, rudely oblivious to the fact that some people have to get off on that floor.
  • People that ask "Is this elevator going up/down?" after they've gotten on the elevator.
  • People that touch elevator buttons with the same hand that's holding a wadded up, obviously used piece of Kleenex.
  • People that sing or hum on the elevator.
  • People that pretend to use a cell phone on the elevator (at least in these, there is no reception)
  • Anyone who says "T.G.I.F." on the elevator (or anywhere for that matter).
  • Anyone who feels they need to make some wise crack about my job (and of course laughs as though I've never heard that shit before).
  • People who ride for just 1 floor (with empty hands)
  • I'm sure there's more, but I'll save that for another time.

I had found a few blogs that mentioned the possibility of holding the desired floor number and door close buttons at the same time. Tricky, because you don't want to actually touch the button with an exposed finger, and if you don't get your shirt sleeve down fast enough, someone may decide to hop on. It seems to work most of the time, and adds to the pleasure of seeing the doors close just as someone appears trying to get on. (Which then necessitates the fake "Oh lemme..!", and then snickering all the way up to your floor.)

antisocial behaviour. How has this gone unnoticed by Dr. Kennedy?

Probably because he's guilty of the same elevator behaviours. He's got it worse, every non-solo ride in the elevator is a potential "while I've got you here Doc, I've been hearing voices..." situation.
