The Utah National Guard is moving faster than anything ever happens in Tucson, with construction on a wall to prevent and deter illegal immigrants. I caught this moments after Kerry leaves for the day, so I didn't have a chance to ask him about this. Is immigration causing a problem in Utah? Not living there (What the fuck Tom?), I obviously have no idea if they are facing the same problems as we are here in Pima County. It seems like a long trek from Mexico, one that I (had my grandparents not come here) would have been far too lazy to make, but perhaps it does make sense. There's got to be an abundance of work available in the hospitality industry, especially in the winter, so it does seem like a logical, less crowded environment for them to head for. Again, I have no idea whether there is a growing problem or not, so I will leave that to be answered by my sage friend Kerry.

Bet them Utah folks havent smelled a cadaver that has died in the 110 degree heat. Welcome to Tucson boys!

Yet another reason I'm glad to be away from funeral homes - Floaters.

To start, if I spoke for Utah ... Utah would be speaking different words. Note that this "life elevated" State has as many opinions on the topic as it has ass holes (every one in the State but Teg and me ... we have anal orifices.) People from Utah did not send the Guard to Arizona, the fucking prick in the White House did that (we are just a small part of the 6,000 rotaters.)
Utah is by all legal measures, an illegal friendly State. Additionally, Utah is a Mexico friendly State ... Pres. Fox was here last month. That is not to imply that quite a few residents do not hate illegals, many do. With unemployment in Utah being about 3%, it is arguable that illegals are integral to the economy. Here it is not just the (year round) hospitality industry seeking labor .. construction is booming, the mining industry is healthy, agriculture flourishes, and many more micro industries need labor. The economy of the State of Utah would suffer without this human resource.
There are problems ... the health care and educational systems are taxed (they were already,) among other social (tax funded) services. We have always had a certain amount of crime from the undocumented sector, I do not see an uptick in this arena. Obviously the low wages that illegals are paid, have a negative impact on legal wage earners ... this may act as a bit of a buffer for this foray into a world economy (for us that dwell in first world countries.)
I personally support controlling imigration, our Government does not do that well. All workers (and people) should be documented (the Government can keep track of all of our phone calls,) any employer who does not, should be mightly fined. A realistic number of work visas need to be offered, our Government oddly underestimates the number necessary ... same for citizenship. The notion of anchor babies automatically becoming citizens needs to be visited ... it is a very touchy thing ...
Geez Joshua, this would take forever.
Doodle, what would you like to wager on that particular issue?
Posted by: Kerry at June 7, 2006 10:13 AM
Jews dont place bets unless they feel reasonably certain money can be won. This issue will not find a solution. Oh, a veneer may occur but that other "stuff" that deep seated stuff will always remain.

Sadly, your words ring true ... but they have a pill for that! In the mean time I shall sport my rose colored glasses, grab a coke, and sing on a mountain top. Da dada da da I'd like to teach the world to sing ...

I have won more money betting Jeri than I ever did in a casino. (That's mostly because Jeri makes us leave if I win a buck or two.."Let's leave while you're ahead..."). It's just not worth the drive out to the casino, only to leave within the first five minutes.

Is someone calling me "pessimist"?
Posted by: doddle at June 8, 2006 08:03 PM
Fuckin Jeri Blank. I remember hearing the same speech of how Jews don't bet a few months ago.

Hi Will - Happy Day of Wedding Vows! Is it over, coming any minute now, or much later...(I would know if Jeri hadn't gotten us un-invited).
Posted by: Joshua at June 9, 2006 12:23 PM
My Buddy Will got married today!
Posted by: doodle at June 9, 2006 10:35 PM
Nooooooo, I was calling you a realist. That requires more pills.
Posted by: Kerry at June 13, 2006 08:15 AM
Anyway you can send a sample of these pills? Wait...don't mail, put them in your suitcase since you'll be here soon. I'm taking Jeri to the supply shop this evening to get a few things she may need for the week. I'm sure the ladies will head back out, but this way they can get started right away. As for you and I, I have a bit of Keystone Light that's chilled and the liquor store is well within drunk driving distance.

Isn't Keystone a Coors product?
Posted by: Kerry at June 13, 2006 11:44 AM
Dont like taking pills. Besides, it would take away some of the "grit".
Posted by: doddle at June 14, 2006 05:13 AM
Correct, Keystone is Coor's packaged in a "Specially Lined" can. When Doodle doesn't get her pills (I grind them up and sprinkle on her nachos...), that's what she buys me. She said once that the 12 pack of Keystone was lighter than a 6 pack of Bass...
