"As far as a I can tell, you just add a hard and throaty ECK to everything and its German. They always initially speak to you in German you give them a confused look, and they proceed in English. Thats all I have to say about language, now my impressions..
Forest, dark green forest with castles and charming houses litter the hillside. The river Neckar runs the length of the town with its boats and canoe's passing swiftly down. Small patches of grass with children playing and picnic style lunches, cheese, wine and meats. Pastry shops every ten feet with delacacies unknown in the states strong thick coffee and strong thick beer.
We have gone into grocerie stores (unlike the mecca's we are accustomed to in the states) where you pick up what you need on a daily basis) also fresh flower stands, you see the women strolling down the avenue with their fresh pick of the day. Marvelous!
The avenue is alive with people, all sorts of people, and its the primary thing to do, it would seem, here in Heidelberg. We did go to the Schloss castle, my means of a trolley that takes you up the mountain, and it was here, sadly, where I learned my camera was broken, I think somehow on it's long journey here in my luggage it met with its untimely death! Sad, but I guess I will just go digital.
The last thing I will say is, despite what history has shown, and despite what preconcieved notions I might have had, the German people have been astoundingly warm and kind!" said Doodle.

The layout of this kezboard is somewhat difficult to grasp. My porkz lips have been submerged in the absolute dreamiest ice cream I have ever imagined. Walnut and zabalione, delightful. The schnitzel....wow! Both pork (schweine) and veal have passed mz lips, and the potatoes....pomme and other have shamed the USA. (Brash statement I know). The beer has been plentiful, sexz, and pure ambrosia. The people of Heidelberg have been trulz hospitable....as in, "follow me, I will take you to your hotel myself" hospitable. The light that pours over the forest and into the river is a glorious sight, and the "real" german shepards that drive cars are magnificent.
Tonight, we meet this Von Hagens character.

Hi Jeri and Joshua, it's nice to hear you made it safely and the people are treating you well, to say the least. I have been to your house twice now and I want to tell you I have seen all 4 cats now. The brown one is my favorite, I don't think I have ever seen that one before. Is that Freda or Georgia? Diego runs to me as soon as I open the door and graciously rubs up against my leg just waiting to be patted. He meows when I stop. Also, no where did either one of you tell me that 3 black kittens whould try and run in the house when I would open the back door, I have to say, it caught me by surprise. When they realized I wasn't one of you, they ran behind the fence. The Carrot cake was fantastic! I shared a piece with Janine and she loved it as well, she also says hello, I am working with her right now. Keep having fun and send another post soon! ~muppet

Mr Von Hagens? Dreamy!
Posted by: doodle at July 20, 2008 02:27 PM
It is Monday for us here (still Sunday to you) I spent the day on my own for the first time while the Mr. set about the lecture circuit. A rather leisurely sleep until 10:00 am, followed by a trip in the rain to the laundry mat. The same is true of Italy, washing clothes is a HUGE expense, 10 dollars to wash and dry two loads! While drying i ventured forth to have a quick coffee, bought some European home magazines, chapstick(i love the chapstick!) and some chocolate that was specifically requested by Kris. Otherwise, ive really yet to see any of the one hundred t-shirts requested, so lets hope Berlin is a MECCA for souviners! Picked up some water and pastry and headed home to await the Mr. This Evening it is the GALA dinner with Gunter and people from all over the world who have convened for the Plastination conference. Chow!

But there was that "some idiot went to Heidelberg and all I got was this lousty t-shit". I think that's what your uncle was wanting.
The Gala dinner is atop the mountain, looking down upon the Schloss, and the citz.
The lectures are very interesting. Kerry, hereäs the bet: I bet UA Risk Management has a fit if I start using honey as a fixative.

Wow, sounds like you two are having fun. Sorry to hear about your camera though, that sucks. I'll show this site to Rusty when I get home, she'll get a kick out of it.
Posted by: Uncle Pat at July 21, 2008 09:21 AM
Just show them page 34 "The Principles & Practice of Embalming" ...Babylonians, Persians, and Syrians all used honey to preserve their dead. Those RM folks are just there to stir up trouble.

My precious daughter and favorite son in law: Your comments of your journey are as witty and remarkably beautiful as any novel I have ever read. Safe and happy journey. Ich Liebe Dich.

Its true, my mother speaks more German than us!
Perhaps you can chaperone Ian, lots of beer here!

Beer, chocolate, veal, lamb and some big-wig who hits on my wife, cups her boobie--right in front of me.
Posted by: Joshua at July 22, 2008 05:28 AM
Lets just clear the air here. Here I am at the top of a mountain, in a spralling decadent violin and piano playing wine drinking pompous atmosphere when one GUNTER VAN HAGEN marches right up to me and introduces himself. Is this my fault? No.
Posted by: doodle at July 22, 2008 05:51 AM
So, at 16:01 Tuesday here, it is 00:01 Wednesday there? Hey, when the market closes, let me know which stocks performed best ;-)
Have a great trip ...VM1, Doodle & Gunter, don't do anything I wouldn't.
Posted by: Kerry at July 22, 2008 12:15 PM
Hello there Marvelous couple! It's Tuesday, the kitties are still doing well. Jeff went with me yesterday and none of the cats came out except Diego. I was upset because I wanted to see Frieda. I brought Mogley with me so I could swap them out. you know, trade. ;) You guys sound like you are having a wonderful, adventurous time! I will keep you updated. ~Muppet
PS-havn't made it to Feast yet. :( But very much looking forward to it. Thank you!

We enjoyed a very leisurely boat tour of the Neckar river today, followed by a very traditional German type dinner, followed by a nice cocktail, one more day in Heidelberg and were off to Dresden (Im not sure if we will have internet access, so please do not think we have forgotten you,)and overnight stay then Guben where we will have a tour not open to the public of Mr. VANHagens work space and an early train ride to Berlin. You will hear from me at least one more time. Thank you to my friend Jessica!
And to my friend Kerry hello.
Posted by: doodle at July 22, 2008 02:22 PM
Dammit Kerrz.....youäd cop a feel of mz wifeäs boobie? I will have to look the other waz perhaps, in this instance at least. As far as your survey K-Dog: My response would have to be in the latter aspects, as we have to sell our house (which is less marketable without the burro pen, porch, handicapped railing), and so forth. Move could be strikinglhz imminent, wife is pretty eager!
Please note, some y's should be "z"'s and vice versa....it's this damned efficient keyboard.
Posted by: Joshua at July 22, 2008 02:29 PM
Wow..what a fantastic voyage so far..SO tell me Doodle..is the Chocolate...*gulps as mouth waters*..is the chocolate as wonder as my mind thinks it is? I mean chocolate..the first true love of my life...in fact i am having a "must eat a whole chocolate cake" moment right now....but new diet is preventing me from eating a "WHOLE" one..my cholesterol is a little high so a glass of red wine is in my diet every night!! woooooo and the diet is for seth..His doc said he has to prove he can lose weight in order to have the lap band procedure done..sooo low fat 2000 cal diet...eek! I have been very good about it..and he has whined and kicked and screamed the whole time..have i lost any weight in the last 3 weeks?..probably not..but at least my cholesterol will go down and i get to drink wine..prescribed by the doc himself....Hows the Wine Doodle?...perhaps you should ship some this way for health reasons you know...

Let me first clarify a few things. The German keyboard is slightly different than our own. The "y" and "z" are reversed, that means, I have to make an effort to spell everything correctly, obviously the mister isnt doing so. About the German Shepard reference, we were walking down a side street and we see A large very regal looking german shepard sitting in the driver seat of a car, looking forward and quite serious. Ready to take the wheel. Lets see, chocolate. I havent had any. Suprising isnt it?
I purchased some "kinder" candy for Kris but have stayed out of it, something rude about opening a gift. I have feasted almost entirely off pastry, frothy creamed coffee's, crois
sants, pom frittes (fries)saurkraut and wine. I am however, making a concerted effort to drink German "WEIN".
Today is our last day in Heidelberg, we take an early train tommorrow, and an earlier train still if we wish to partake in a tour of the Polish region before landing in Dresden, we are starting to get a little closer then to where "bad things happened".
See you friends.

As tempting as bobbies ...can be (and I am almost certain that "THE HAND" is attached to a wonderful and verz tempting set of them,) I would not "cop" a feel of said. What happens in Europe, stazs in Europe (unless zou tzpe it in zour blog-duh) and I respect (it's that damn Libertarian side of me) zou threes right to have a good time.
Unless I read ...S-T-O-P N-O-W, Robinhood will need to be secured on 7/28. Mz offer (I want zou) will stand for the next 6 months. After 6 months, the degree of dificultz in this matter increases.
With trips like this in the perk repertoire, whz would zou want to come here?
Posted by: Kerrz at July 23, 2008 09:30 AM
Because we'll contrive a way to increase your funding somehow. Bo will pay for them. And Jeri will do payroll. 6 months may work.....Doodle will work up some figures over Weizen here in just a bit.
Posted by: Joshua at July 23, 2008 10:52 AM
So, Heidelberg is nearing an end, and no further ice cream is to be had here. Perhaps had I not lingered over mz bologna salad (yes, salad), we could have made the deadline. Itäs off to Dresden, Guben and Berlin for now....not sure when we will have access again, so for now.....Kerrz will write stories!
Posted by: Joshua at July 23, 2008 01:15 PM
What can I say? I enjoyed Heidelberg, its a small college town, not alot to do but a lot to observe. Im finally feeling a comfort with how things work in this European country. We depart rather early in the morning for Dresden which will be a 7 hour trip, we will arrive at approx 2 so we will be able to stroll through the town (no itinerary, no expectations) we will depart early the next morning for Guben. We arent sure when the next internet access will be, if we have it we will certainly communicate, but it might not be until Berlin, so keep talking we value the words from home! I certainly love the time I have been fortunate enough to spend in Europe.Chow. Doodle

If zou can increase the funding here, I'll work for zou (here.) Your first order of business ...I want a raise and a trip to Ireland. For now, buz Doodle another Weizen. Thez have been promising me a helicopter ride for 24 zears now. I sent a VM1 link to Air Med when zou went up, since-thez have called with request for material (not granted,) but, no offers of a ride from them.
Posted by: Kerrz at July 23, 2008 02:36 PM
Ok....Doodle ate her bologna salad and Weizen. Can plastination be done there?
I started whining about the helicopter ride during my first phone call with AirMethods. Now I want a jumpsuit to wear when the Doodle is um....'friskz'
Kerry....the beer here is soooo sexy!
Posted by: Joshua at July 23, 2008 09:39 PM
Ok, we are in Dresden. It was a 7 hour bus ride to get here and it did not appear at once, to be as charming as Heidelberg. It has that gray, worn out utilitarian look about it, and its raining to boot. However, wandering a bit took us to some rather grand Baroque plazas of inordinately carved buildings, horse drawn carriage's and violin playing and decadent fountain's. Our hotel is a hovel and Im looking forward to seeing Gunters's private digs tommorrow. Love Jeri

How do they celebrate Pioneer Day in Germany?
Plastination:
1) it isn't that it couldn't be done here, it's that I do not see many Utah body donors giving consent to have it done. They want the cremains back.
2) all bodies received, already have a place to go
3) a sound business plan (we are mission based) would have to be submitted and approved
4) well, you know how much support you would get from me ..but.. it would be your program to direct in a few years. You would have the support of Dave and Bo in this endeavor.
Beer, now that's a good idea. We will do a business plan for a micro-brewery here. "Slogan, come in for a stiff one."

Lets see, lets see. We made our way to the VanHagen compound It is a literal spralling brick building compound with different sections with different functions, huge! My favorite part? When Gunter jumps on the furniture so we could all see him talk. Sure you couldnt understand him half the time through his thick german accent, nevermind. I found him to be very open hearted. I am happy to be loose from this strange group tour herding mentality. The hotel at Guben and basically the overall feel of Guben was something id like to put out of mind. Upon arrival at the Concorde hotel in Berlin, while still paying for our taxi I am being welcomed and my luggage taken, and the door opens to a wonderfully decadent hotel staying.Goshie Jeeps I could learn to live like this. We strolled about the streets for awhile, had dinner and drinks and are now retiring to our room, I will have to let you know about the city tomorrow!
